How are Kurak Empire Turkish towels different from other towels?

There's no secret that we fell in love with Turkish Towels and the weavers we work with. There are so many beautiful designs, styles and colours you won't find anywhere else. ALL our designs are woven using the best quality materials and pre-washed for your convenience. Our Turkish towels are ethically and sustainably made with zero waste in Turkey. They are made with 100% Oeko-tex certified Turkish cotton and finished with our hand-knotted tassels.

I'm confused. What's the difference between Turkish towels / Fouta / Peshtemal / Hamman?

Fouta, peshtemals, and hammam towels all originate from Turkey. All are 100% cotton and flat woven so not terrytowelling or with looped threads. They are loved for their unique properties and beautiful designs. Although they may look similar, there are subtle differences. Turkish towels, also known as fouta towels, are made from 100% cotton and are perfect for travel, beach days, or as a bath towel. They come in a wide range of colours, patterns, and sizes, and are known for their durability and absorbency. Peshtemals, on the other hand, are traditionally used in Turkish baths and are known for their softness and absorbency. They have fringes on the ends, making them perfect for use as a wrap or sarong, as well as a beach or bath towel. Hammam towels are larger and thicker, with a more textured weave making them ideal for drying off after a bath or wrapping up for warmth. Whether you're looking for a lightweight and quick drying towel, a soft and absorbent one with fringes, or a more textured one, they can all be found in Kurak Empire’s Collections. So, enjoy choosing your favourite knowing you're getting an authentic Turkish towel woven in Turkey with Turkish cotton.

What are your towels made of?

Our towels are 100% EKOTEC certified natural cotton woven locally where the cotton is grown, all in Turkey. Some Kurak Empire towels also incorporate linen fibre. Cotton is a natural fibre that comes from the seed pod of the cotton plant. Cotton fibres are relatively soft and flexible, which gives cotton towels their fluffy, plush texture. Cotton is also highly absorbent and can hold up to 27 times its own weight in water. This makes cotton towels great for use in the bathroom or for drying off after a swim. Additionally, cotton is easy to dye, which means that cotton towels come in a wide range of colours and patterns. Linen, on the other hand, is made from the fibres of the flax plant. The fibres are longer and coarser than cotton fibres, which gives linen towels their natural, textured feel. Linen is also highly absorbent, and can hold up to 20% of its weight in water. Unlike cotton, linen is more resistant to dirt and stains, and is naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial. Linen towels are also known for their durability, and can last for years with proper care.

Are your towels sustainable?

Kurak Empire Turkish towels are created using only EKO TEC certified natural cotton. Patterns are woven into the design never printed which means there are no nasty chemicals used. We use sustainable recycling packaging and work hard to ensure we work with weavers who have similar philosophies.

?? CARE (do we need this here; there is another section devoted to care with specific information)

Cotton towels are easy to care for and can be machine washed and dried. Linen towels require a bit more care, as they can shrink or become misshapen if they're exposed to high heat. To care for linen towels, it's recommended to wash them in cool water and hang them to dry, or tumble dry them on a low heat setting. Overall, both cotton and linen have unique properties that make them suitable for different uses. Cotton towels are soft, absorbent, and come in a wide range of colors and patterns, while linen towels are more textured, durable, and naturally hypoallergenic.
